My concept about art is based on travelling through time and space without taking up too much space and time.
This is a virtual gallery featuring paintings of vintage autos that mark a different time and era when "Made in America" meant something to Americans. In the "New Millenium", time has been warped and twisted into a virtual reality where the entire planet is connected by the illusion of speed through the interenet and worldwide web. Ironically, we are more disconnected as human beings and disenfranchised by the corporate and government powers that rule the world. Time is more compressed into digital increments than ever before.
I make works of art as a form of "time travel" to create my own reality about time and space. I can wander anywhere in my mind without having to leave my studio. I use less natural resources to reduce my carbon footprint. I eat locally, buy locally and live locally in a small community on Alameda (Island). Walking and bicycles are my primary modes of transportation.
The larger city of San Francisco is across the Bay Bridge by car, bus, train or ferry. Oakland is a only 2 minute drive under the "tube", an underground tunnel that separates the "island" from the mainland.
Actually, this really is a cosmic joke to me because I grew up in the most remote island chain on the Earth, 5 hours by air from the West Coast. I was born and raised on the island Kauai, Hawaii before it became the 50th State. I am not a true American by birthright. Both of my parents were immigrants from Luzon in the Philippine Islands when they arrived in Hawaii, my Father in the 1920's and my mother in the the 1940's. They were not naturalized citizens until after I was born. We were baby boomers after World War II, when the War raged on in the The Pacific Ocean Islands from Japan to Pearl Harbor.
This was my time of coming of age, 1950, (when I was born) to the present (2012). It was a very interesting time that will never be experienced again in many lifetimes to come.
