The new East Bay Bridge
opened last night
for the first time
on September 2, 2013
Labor Day.
The new gateway to The East Bay Span is beautiful, day or night.
I first crossed the old Bay Bridge exactly 45 years ago
en route to Oakland fresh from Honolulu via SFO Airport.
This was my first trip to the "mainland" continent from
Kauai, my original home in the Hawaiian Islands.
Kauai, my original home in the Hawaiian Islands.
It was 1968, 45 years ago, when I started to attend art school at
The California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland.
(Now Known As The Caifornia College of The Arts
in both San Francisco and Oakland.)
The old bridge will be dismantled slowly, piece by piece.
This day begins a new era for crossing the SF Bay from The East Bay.
I look forward to cycling and walking over the bridge
in the next 2 years ~ 2015.
